A) PASSENGER VAN installation instructions
The Child Check-Mate Safety System (CCMS) is made up of two main components. The first is the Main
Alarm Unit (MAU), which is mounted at the front of the bus near the driver and comes with a separate
“Wiring Harness”. The second, is the Rear Vehicle Transmitter (RVT-Reset Button) that is mounted on the
inside left rear of the bus.
Questions relating to the installation should be directed to Allan Lowe, VP Engineering, Child Check-
Mate Systems Inc. ccms@childcheckmate.com or directly at 613-835-9828.
Installing the Front Master Alarm Unit
Location and Mounting:
- Locate a convenient mounting area for the Master Alarm Unit within the main electrical panel at the front of the bus. Before securing the unit, check to ensure that its location is central enough so that it can be reached easily by the plug leading from the wire harness once all the wires have been connected.
- Secure the unit to the wall using the two-sided tape provided.
- Once mounted, screws may be applied to the holes located at each end of the Unit.
Connecting the wire harness for the Master Alarm Unit:
- Before plugging into the Master Alarm Unit, connect wiring harness as follows;
| 1. |
CONNECT TO BLUE WIRE OF RVT |
BLUE WIRE |
 |
| 2. |
VEHICLE HORN |
GREEN WIRE |
 |
| 3. |
GROUND |
BLACK WIRE |
 |
| 4. |
BRAKE LIGHT SWITCH |
BROWN WIRE |
 |
| 5. |
IGNITION |
YELLOW WIRE |
 |
| 6. |
BATTERY |
RED WIRE |
 |
- Connect the YELLOW wire to ignition - 12 volts.
- Connect the RED wire to battery 12 volts. (Positive all the time)
- Connect the BLACK wire to a good ground connection.
- Find the horn relay of the bus and connect the GREEN wire to the ground side of the horn relay.
NOTE: You may need to run extra (18 gauge) wire if the relay or ground wire is located under the steering
column. If there is no horn relay, a relay must be installed. See insert.
- The brown wire is connected to the brake light switch, whenever the brake pedal is depressed, the
system is activated
- The blue wire is not connected to anything at this time. When the rear 2W-RVT is installed at the rear
of the bus, the blue wire of the RVT and the MAU are connected together via a harness.
- Once the wire harness has been connected, simply plug it into the Master Alarm Unit.
- You are now ready to install the Rear Reset Button
Installing the Rear Vehicle Transmitter (RVT-Reset Button)
Location and Mounting:
The RVT should be mounted on the left side of the vehicle at the very rear of the vehicle.
- Drill a 23/64th-inch hole at desired location over the rear seat.
- Insert plastic grommet, (supplied) into drilled hole.
- Loosen panels required to run the two wires to the front of the vehicle.
- Feed the two wires out the “back” of the RVT and through the pre drilled hole and secure it to the panel
with the top screw (supplied). IMPORTANT: The lock washer provided MUST be installed between the
bus body and the Rear Vehicle Transmitter. The Rear Transmitter must be grounded.
- Run a two-wire harness to the front of the vehicle, ending at the Master Alarm Unit.
- At the RVT, connect the Blue wire to one of the wires from the two wire harness and connect the Red
wire to the other wire in the harness.
- Place the small plug (supplied) over the two remaining holes at the bottom of the Rear Vehicle Transmitter secure to panel.
- Refer to “connecting the RVT wires” below.
Connecting the RVT wires:
| 1. |
CONNECT TO BLUE WIRE OF MAU - BLUE WIRE |
 |
| 2. |
12 VOLT IGNITION - RED WIRE |

Operation Check List
- Start the bus, DO NOT step on the brake pedal. Turn the bus off. The Child Check-Mate System alarm
should not sound. If the system alarms sounds, re-check your brown wire location.
- Start the bus; Step on the brake pedal, turn off the ignition switch. The system alarm (a high pitched beeping)
should begin to sound. Turn the ignition back “on” or to the “accessory” position; the alarm should be
silenced in either position. Return to the rear of the bus and depress the reset button and hold for at least one
second. You will hear a deactivation signal (a rapid chirping sound). The system has now been deactivated
and the key can be removed from the ignition.
- Start the bus, step on the brakes. With the bus still running, return to the rear of the bus and depress the
reset button once again until you hear the deactivation signal. Turn ignition off, the alarm should not sound
and the key can be removed.
- Start the bus, step on the brakes. Turn the bus off and allow the alarm to continue to sound. After 8 seconds
the Vehicle’s horn should pulse “on” and “off” at one-second intervals. Turn the ignition back “on” or to the“accessory” position, to silence the alarm. Return to the rear of the bus and depress the reset button until you
hear the deactivation signal. The system has now been deactivated and the key can be removed from the
ignition.
- Apply sticker to inside front of vehicle above entrance door.
